The Advent Market in Mondsee has become more attractive from year to year. Seasonal events, such as carol concerts and plays, get you into the Christmas Spirit. Amid Mondsee´s historical ambience, with the cathedral (well known form the film "The Sound of
Music" - the Captain and Maria’s wedding scene was filmed inside the church). Mondsee Cathedral was once the heart of an important monastery.

• Salzkammergut At it´s Best

On each weekend in Advent small businesses, handicraft workshops and local cultural societies will be taking part and displaying their wares. Particular highlights of Advent in Mondsee include such treasures as hand-carved cribs, old fashioned crafts from guild-artisans, as well as cultural events from Mondsee clubs and societies. In the cloisters next to the basilica, there is an exhibition of cribs, the Goldhaubenfrauen will also present their hand embroidered bonnets. Particularly thrilling is the Christbaumtauchen (dipping of the Christmas-tree in the lake) by the Mondsee Life Guards. Pre-Christmas celebrations in the basilica include the blessing of advent wreaths as well as performances of select pieces of music by the church choir.

The lakeside community of Mondsee and the beautiful Mondseeland are the ideal retreat for anyone wishing to combine culture with nature.

Mondsee is only a 20-minute drive away from the festival city Salzburg. This small city ist an ideal starting point for trips to Bad Ischl, St Wolfgang and Gmunden.
